COVID-19

At Cathay Care Home, the health, safety, and well-being of our residents, their families, and our staff are a top priority, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic. Our team is dedicated to adhering to all safety guidance and regulations outlined by the Government and relevant sector authorities. We continue to keep everyone well-informed and updated on regulations.

Despite the challenges posed by COVID-19, we have worked tirelessly to establish structured policies and procedures that inspire confidence and reassurance among our residents and visitors to the home. Our focus is to create a secure and protected environment where everyone feels cared for and supported. We stand firm in our commitment to ensuring the safety and comfort for all those under our care.

Our COVID-19 Approach

In line with recent Scottish Government guidance effective from September 2022, care homes in Scotland no longer require face masks to be worn during visits due to high vaccination rates and other mitigations against COVID-19 in the social care sector and LFD testing is no longer necessary. Face masks will continue to be provided at the home should it be your preference to continue to wear one and staff will support the preferences of our residents who wish for our staff to wear face masks whilst providing them with care.

We would like to reassure you that we will continue to work closely with our Local Health Protection Teams and will follow their guidance should this decision change. For further information, please click here or contact the Home Manager directly.

Keeping Safe

At Cathay Care Home, the safety and well-being of our residents and staff are paramount. We take the necessary precautions to protect everyone against COVID-19 by providing personal protective equipment (PPE) and hand hygiene products. Our dedicated team adheres strictly to the infection prevention and control measures that we have implemented.

We understand the importance of staying informed and following official advice from the Government, the Department of Health, and the local NHS Trust, and ensuring that both residents and staff are kept updated on all available vaccinations and boosters for COVID-19 and the flu.

Staying Connected With Those Who Matter

Despite the ongoing impact of COVID-19, our dedication to maintaining strong connections between our residents and their loved ones and the wider community remains strong. We actively encourage and support our residents in taking day trips and overnight stays outside of our care home, as we recognise the importance of spending time with loved ones outside of our home.

To ensure a person’s safety, each resident undergoes an individual risk assessment upon their return, which includes respiratory screening questions. While testing and isolation measures are not mandatory for residents who temporarily leave the home, we strongly encourage residents and staff to keep up with vaccinations. At times when physical interactions may be restricted, such as during an outbreak, we provide various online devices and telephones, enabling residents to call or video chat with their loved ones.

COVID-19 FAQs

Ensuring the safety of our residents, their loved ones, and our staff is of high importance to us at Cathay Care Home. Our team is happy to provide assistance and address any questions or concerns you may have. Below is our most frequently asked questions (FAQs) in regards to COVID-19:

Whilst being vaccinated is no longer mandatory we strongly recommend that all residents, their visitors, and team members at Cathay Care Home are fully COVID-19 vaccinated, including future boosters, unless medically exempt. To reduce the risk of infection to others we will continue to encourage our team members to have all their vaccinations.

When transferring from the community or another care home a person does not need to isolate if the circumstances at the care home / interim care facility from which the person has transferred are known.

If the resident is symptomatic or has been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19, then they should isolate and perform two LFT tests on day (0), and again on day (2). Isolation can end following two negative tests.

If the resident tests positive in the home, they must be isolated for 5 days. The resident can then return to their normal activities if they feel well and do not have a high temperature (without the use of medication paracetamol).

Residents who test positive should avoid contact with other people who are eligible for COVID-19 treatments for 10 days after a positive test. Residents unable to take the test should isolate for 5 days.

During an outbreak, there may be risk assessments carried out to include but not limited to the control of visiting arrangements, admissions to the home, and the use of communal areas for a period of time. We work closely with local and national agencies in accordance with local agreements and guidance. For more information please contact our Home Manager directly.
